2. Liquid Castile: The Contact Killer
Castile is a non-toxic soap made from plant-based oils, like olive oil. Its active components are fatty acids, which are highly effective at disrupting insect biology. It also binds to their trachea and spiracles to block their ability to breathe.
How it works: When a pest is directly hit with the spray, the fatty acids in the soap dissolve the outer layer of the insect’s cuticle, leading to internal loss of necessary fluids needed to survive.
Benefits of Our Formula: Using DE alone may eliminate 90% of your bed bugs, but the remaining 10% may be stronger now as a result. By using potassium salts of fatty acids, we use an alternate means of achieving the same desired outcome. The result is exoskeleton penetration and dehydration, resulting in death.
3. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES): The Key Synergist
Sodium Laureth Sulfate is a common surfactant derived from coconut oil. In our formula, it ties everything together and makes the active ingredients even more effective, with a texture that maximizes total efficacy.
How it works: SLES keeps the DE and Castile evenly mixed together, but even more importantly, as the spray dries, it helps the DE particles adhere to the treated surface, amplifying its effect on the insect.
Benefits of Our Formula: Combining a simple, natural ingredient that boosts the overall effectiveness of our bug spray yet does not cause adverse reactions to skin like its more commonly known counterpart, Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS), enabled us to increase the spray’s efficacy while improving upon products of its kind. SLES is a milder ingredient created from SLS through a process called ethoxylation that makes it less irritating to the skin and eyes.
